Description of mathematical task:
1. I will ask each students to open the m&m pack, and ask them to count the total number of m&ms.
2. Then I will ask them to count m&ms in terms of their colors.
3. Then students have to talk about their observation. Some of the questions that I will ask are given below:
(a) What fraction represents the number of each color candy in your pack?
(b) Which color represents the largest fraction?
(c) Which color represents the smallest fraction?
Appropriate grade range: 3-5
Topics that the task develop: Fraction, adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing fraction.
Material list: A bag of m&m, pencil & paper.
Solution: Generally M&M's should contain 24% blue, 14% brown, 16%green, 20% orange, 13% red, and 14% yellow M&M's.
